Reflect on what it means to create a “Beloved Communityā€¯. The term, first coined by philosopher-theologian Josiah Royce (1855-1916), was popularized by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who weaved it through speeches and essays during years of social advocacy. Perhaps it can only ever be an idealistic aspiration in a country of more than 300 million people, but it could become a reality on our island of 67,000 give or take. Bermuda’s unique features, geographical, historical, social and cultural, offer the possibility of creating a community where everyone is cared for, where there is justice and opportunity, and where love prevails in all disputes.

Start by just imagining it. Then, act with this intention in mind, every day.
